UPDATE: new version. without frame.

Yesterday we've found this little baby version of this bird and we namend him Brutus. He couldn't fly away all the time and now (after the vet told us to do that) we have a new member in our family which have to be fed.
He's truly cute but we don't know what's wrong with him - cause he hasn't any wounds or broken bones.
We'll see if he could manage it with our help to fly soon away into the woods again!

 Brutus - just a few minutes ago i've fed him.

For those who are intrestet what he is - not just a bird he is most likely a (german) [link] or (english) [link] .
Hope i tell the truth - but he looks like that all around with his feathers and so on.

He reminds me of a red tail hawk with being all speckled on his head like that. I think they look speckled all over when they're younger, but when they're older they get their famous red tail feathers. Cute lil guy =D

May I ask how big he is? (wingspan, body langth)

We havn't measured that! And my mom have decided it's better for him to bring him to the bird center in our town - so i have to calculate - and i would say nearly 60 cm wingspan and 30 - 40 cm length. So normally i would say (but i am not used or informed in birds and theyr behavior etc.) he's old enough to fly (!) and also to catch mises and so on for himself?
I don't know - but now he is in great helpfully hands - also when i have to say i've also liked to have a little Brutus around me. For that we just would need special papers we don't have. :(

Thanks for that kind comment. I am not that informed about this kind of birds (or i have to say about all birds and theyr behavior and so on) but he was truly cute! Now he is in a bird center - there they could make it nicer to him ans could find out whats wrong with him :( Nice for him, but sad for us.

I'd become a falconer if such a bird was orphaned near me. I'm in the US, so only falconers and zoos can keep these beauties legally. He def. sounds like a buzzard. People hear buzzard and think vulture, but they're amazed when they see a pretty hawk instead.

Here in germany it's also illegal to have such a bird at home without being a falconer. Thats one of the reasons why we'd to give him to the bird center. For me it have been a really amazing moment to held this kinglike animal in hands - my mom would like to becomae a falconer now and i would love to have Brutus back at home :)

What a great shot. Brilliantly isolated from the background, and composed well.

It might have been nice to stop the aperture down a tiny bit so its beak and tongue were in perfect focus, but that's just being really picky.

Fantastic capture :)
